Right after the fire in Notre Dame I was going to write a satirical article about "LeCorbusier's Fetid Corpse"™ rising out of the ground ready to continue his program to wipe the old Paris off the face of the earth. [LINK, Voisin Plan] His hatred of Paris, culture, art, humanity was expressed so clearly in his Voisin Plan for Paris.
This was not to be some Green Field utopia. No, for LeCorbusier, his plan was to destroy over 1,000 years of French culture and achievement. Well, he did himself one better: he and his cohorts of the so-called Modern and Bow-Wow-Haus destroyed culture, beauty and human achievement worldwide.
Certain other people in certain other places had similar ideas but didn't make it past mid-century.
But the face of artistic and cultural authoritarianism triumphed across the globe as in those old animations of red paint flowing down from the North Pole to cover the earth.
But, occupied by family life, my satire of "LeCorbusier's Fetid Corpse"™ was not to be written right away and now it would be an empty exercise since "real life" has caught up.
Bela Lugosi may be dead but the other cadaver, the other cultural zombie apocalypse, "Modernism's Fetid Corpse"™ arose almost immediately to declare that the rebuild of Notre Dame should be "modern", steel, glass, or some such shit. It doesn't really matter what, since everyone knows that whatever the "Modernists Fetid Corpses"™ come up with, well, it will just be the usual angled, tilted stack of steel, glass or some shit.
The Borgitekts smell the damaged body of the Cathedral and long for the oppportunity to kill it off. After all, that is what so-called architects (correct appellation: Borgitekts) do on a daily basis.
They see an old town square in Germany and can't wait to shit glass sheets and proctological Mies-Van-der-Rohe gray I-Beams onto it.

The changes for the better in architecture have completely passed Germany by. Germany is the North Korea of Architecture and the city I live in, Halle, is the sealed-off North Korean Nuclear Facility of Architecture.
The rest of the world has starchitects spewing out absurd monstrosities that one can mock and then puke over. Here in Germany we are in a place where every building, every new landscape, every new everything can be used as a set for some film taking place in a dystopian totalitarian future.
